They do not want you to discover yourself. They do not want you to recognise the power of consciousness or understand that consciousness is God in expression. Because the moment you realise that truth, you no longer depend on them for your sense of connection to the divine.
The church relies on that dependency. It relies on you staying afraid, staying disconnected, staying convinced that you need an external authority to reach God. In that way the church has become a business, feeding off the idea that your salvation must come through them rather than through your own awakening.
